Did you know National Reconciliation Week (NRW) was once known as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation? This occurred back in 1993 during the International Year of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. It was supported by Australia’s major faith communities.
It was only in 1996, the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation (now known as Reconciliation Australia) launched Australia’s first National Reconciliation Week. In 2001, Reconciliation Australia was established to continue to provide national leadership on reconciliation.
The theme for the 2021 NRW is More than just a word. Reconciliation takes action.
One thing we can all do is to engage in prayer.
This year you are invited to join us, individually or in groups, to meditate on each of 8 daily prayers for the 8 days of NRW (May 27 – June 3). As you meditate also pray that the Holy Spirit will lead you to be inspired to actioning something specific that will positively contribute to your personal Reconciliation journey.
Day 1 (May 27): Prayer for the Journey of Healing
Day 2 (May 28): Prayer of Confession
Day 3 (May 29): Reconciliation Prayer
Day 4 (May 30): Gathering Prayer for Unity in the Trinity
Day 5 (May 31): Prayer for Reconciliation
Day 6 (June 1): The Lord’s Payer in Guugu Yimidhirr/English (Hopevale Community)
